‘In celebration of our 250th anniversary, Grayson Perry RA coordinated the biggest, brightest and most colourful Summer Exhibition yet.
Each summer our galleries are jam-packed with contemporary art made by internationally renowned artists and exciting new talent. In 2018, Grayson Perry RA and his committee of fellow artists handpicked over 1,300 artworks in an array of mediums.
The Summer Exhibition included a monumental sculpture by Anish Kapoor RA in the RA courtyard, while vast new works by David Hockney RA and Joana Vasconcelos appeared in the galleries. Artists Mona Hatoum and Tal R showed alongside Royal Academicians including Wolfgang Tillmans, Mike Nelson, Tracey Emin and Rose Wylie, and Honorary Academicians Bruce Nauman and Ed Ruscha.’

‘A new exhibition inspired by Bury Art Museum’s First World War archive will feature work from staff and students at Manchester Metropolitan University.
The exhibition is curated by Jacqueline Butler, Head of Media at Manchester School of Art, and is inspired by the Beyond the Battlefields exhibition she co-curated with Professor Melanie Tebbutt at Grosvenor Gallery last month.
The artists will be working across a range of media to create interventions in the museum’s First World War exhibition spaces.’

‘Non-Members Varnishing Day is one of the most colourful traditions associated with our annual Summer Exhibition.
Originally the day when artists would put the finishing touches to their works within the galleries, it is now a day of celebration that we share with the artists who have been selected for the show.’
‘Everything you’ll see at the Summer Exhibition represents the art being made today. Expect to find a panorama of art in all media, from painting, printmaking, film and photography to sculpture, architectural works and performance art.’
