Delighted to have been highly commended in the ‘Portrait’ category of this years Contemporary Collage Magazine awards!

Here’s what CC. had to say:

‘We’ve had an amazing year for submissions and our judges have been deliberating long and hard to choose our winners. Thank you to everyone who entered and to our incredible judging panel for helping us to chose our incredible winners. The standard was so high that our judges felt that, in some categories, more than one artist was deserving of being a winner, and we agreed. So, here they are…congratulations to all recognised artists.’

MONOCHROMATIC - A PHOTO TROUVÉE MAGAZINE EXHIBITION!

MONOCHROMATIC
PHOTO TROUVÉE MAGAZINE

www.phototrouveemagazine.com
13th September - 15th October 2023

I am delighted to have been selected to exhibit in Photo Trouvée Magazines latest virtual exhibition.

“Monochromatic” is a virtual exhibition that explores the profound interplay between memory, emotions and nostalgia through the monochromatic lens. The works featured primarily use black and white imagery which is then altered or embellished by a single color varying in  lightness and saturation. Vibrant shades of blue may elicit the recollection of an endless expanse of sky or evoke cherished seaside memories, while gentle tones of sepia might awaken the charm of bygone eras, immortalizing ephemeral moments in time. Nostalgia acts as a tender muse, evoking a longing for the irretrievable moments that have shaped us. Through the visual language of monochromaticity, the exhibition offers a unique opportunity to delve into these complex realms of emotions. This exhibition, curated in the order of the rainbow, invites viewers to embark on a contemplative and visually pleasing journey exploring the works of 23 contemporary artists inspired by found and family photographs.

OPEN! THE MEDITATION OF DRAWING, MANCHESTER CATHEDRAL - MANCHESTER ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS EXHIBITION

‘Photography is an immediate reaction; drawing is a meditation’ – Henri Cartier-Bresson

The purpose of drawing can be many things to different individuals; it can describe, record, document, explore, invent, create, visualise and communicate. Drawing is the most basic tool of depiction; it can become a meditational act of awareness. The Manchester Academy of Fine Arts initiated this exhibition to explore and promote the positive aspects of drawing.

Visitors to this exhibition will see how MAFA artists each have their own individual approaches to drawing. We hope you will be inspired by the drawings on display in the Nave of the Cathedral and selected sketchbook images in the Chapter House. Responding to the concept of the exhibition, the public will be able to participate by drawing the surroundings around them. A catalogue will accompany the exhibition with essays by Professor Tim Brennan, Julia Midgley and John Hewitt. The essays examine how drawing is a meditation of the world around us.

Connected to this exhibition, a Bunker Talk was held by The Manchester School of Art in conjunction with MAFA. Professor Tim Brennan, Julia Midgley and John Hewitt were interviewed on the subject of drawing. Click here to watch the talk.
